Made it safely to Korea !

Hey all!  It's 2am and we made it to Korea!  Just had our late night dinner.

Thanks for all of your prayers !  It was an awesome outreach and again a fruitful time :).

We made it safely back to syafru after a 6 hr adventure this morning.  We are heading back to Kathmandu now.

Nessing

Wow!  Despite some physical challenges with several of our team members coming down with gastrointestinal illnesses we are doing fine!   We did have to give IV fluids to 2 of our own team members due to dehydration , but everyone is back up and going strong again.   Thank you for your prayers !   Even with those those setbacks , we were able to see over 200 medical and dental patients in the last 2 days in Nessing! 

    It was a huge blessing to see a baby and mom that Beka and I helped during labor 2 years ago.  We didn't think that this baby was going to make it out alive due to the mothers poor condition.  It was so good to see a nice big healthy baby 2 yeas later :).   I can see why we had such a hard time trying to deliver the baby ....he has a BIG head!!!!   

We will be having clinic this am in Nessing and then house visits for prayer and encouragement this afternoon.   

Pray that we finish strong and that God's love overflows into the people here.   They are the most precious , humble and grateful people I have ever met.

The people here are so amazingly strong! Not only physically but spiritually. Today, we were privileged to witness both of these strengths. 

The first - the spiritual strength - was displayed during the Nepali Church service. Though there was a lot we couldn't understand, one can definitely feel the Holy Spirit present when they are singing their beautiful songs, praying their sweet prayers, and in delivering their wonderful sermons. They LOVE our Heavenly Father and it shows in their eyes and in their smiles. We washed the feet of the village leaders and spiritual leaders, just as Jesus washed the Disciples' feet, to demonstrate to them we are here to serve them and to love them. They had prepared yellow silk neckerchiefs for each of us to thank us and to bless us in our travels which they have to us at the end of the service. Then, we went up the river where they built a small dam to have a pool to baptize those who had come to know Christ as their savior. We baptized a total of 8 men, women, and children. 

After that, we got to experience their remarkable physical strength and agility as we hiked to Nessing. They literally carried almost every pack of ours along with huge bags of rice, plates, water, medical equipment, and other supplies over a treacherous 5 mile hike. They do this by strapping the load to their head and carrying it on their back - each person carrying easily 1.5 times their body weight. Not only do they carry a ridiculous amount of weight, but they move so quickly with that weight. It's mind boggling. Wow!

What an amazing blessing this has been and continues to be! We cannot wait to share this experience with family and friends soon!

I am sick now. Praise Jesus!

It may not seem like the best idea to launch into a post about how I'm *not* up and contributing to the mission the Lord has called us on, but hey, the truth is I'm rocking a GI infection right now that has me laid out horizontal. I'm on Cipro and electrolytes and am eagerly looking forward to standing up and walking around...but not today. I'm beat down for now.
BUT I'm in Nessing with a great team (praise the Lord) of Americans, Nepalese (from all over Nepal), and even a Canadian. Because of my illness I've been gifted with an outpouring of love and care from everyone around me, which is deeply precious to me (praise the Lord!)--and wouldn't be available if I wasn't.  Because of my illness the Lord has another opportunity to bring healing, personally,  into *my* life (not just observing someone else's) through the prayers and skill of my friends here and brothers and sisters in Christ. 

I'll get better. But how I get there is the delicious part.

I think sometimes bad things happen so that the Lord can have an opportunity to demonstrate His power through the faithfulness of the servants He calls. And if there's one thing I can vouch for about the team around us, it's that they are *definitely* faithful to the Lord's calling. 

Don't get me wrong-I would love to be free of this thing-and it will happen-but until then I'm excited to see what the Lord does.

Gatlang day #2

Today is the second day of medical clinic in Gatlang. I have been on intake duty with my good friends Mingmar, Lakpa, and Kapche. I understand a few words but sometimes it's hard to tell if they are speaking Tamang, Nepali, or English. The doorway is crazy, it reminds me of working at boots and kimos except no one really speaks English and there are millions of flies and a few pungent odors. It is amazing to see God's work being done despite the language barrier. Thank you for your continuous prayer and support. Aloha and jaimashi to all. Joey 

Lakpa--chiring---is the man above that actually passed away today.  

He had been suffering with liver failure due to hepatitis B for over 4 years.  

We were called to his house in the early morning to help with his condition , but after looking over his medical papers and seeing his condition, there was very little we could do medically to "cure him".   His abdomen was severely swollen and he was hardly conscious when we saw him.   According to the church leaders he was a "nominal Christian".   We did have an opportunity to pray and encourage this man in his relationship with Christ.  Yes we did contend for God's healing over him.  But we also prayed for God to give him peace and joy as he appeared to be transitioning.    He did appear to have the Lords peace over him after our time of prayer.   He nodded with his hands folded together and said "dhanyabat , Jaimashi" which translates to "thank you , Jesus' Victory".  He then closed his eyes and appeared to nod off to sleep( picture above).  Please pray for the son and the rest of the family as they are not Christians.   Pray that they would have God's peace upon them and would feel His tangible love and grace.     Tim

We saw over 100 patients combined in dental , medical and optical clinic.  It was a very busy day but the team did an awesome job!   After clinic was finished (about 6pm ) a group of us went for house visits....until about 8 :30pm......it was truly a fruitful day......to be continued.  

Gatlang Clinic

We had a great night if rest at Hotel sky in Syafru besi!  We are always taken care if by Lakpa's wife and her hospitality is always off the scales.   We had an awesome drive up the mountain in the 4x4 jeeps!   Even though it was my 10 th time up these mountains I can't ever seem to get over the magnificence and beauty of these Himalayan mountains!   I literally teared up and got that "Holy spirit chicken skin " as we went up the mountains.  The mountain peaks were the clearest they have ever been in all the times I have been here.    Words or pictures just cannot do it justice.  

When we arrived in Gatlang, we were warmly welcomed by the Gatlang church members with fresh flower leis and flowers!  It was the most special welcome yet!  It brought several of us to tears(including myself).  They had apparently hiked up the mountain to the jungle to collect the beautiful flowers ....it was truly touching and something I will always remember!  

There was also a line of people that had been waiting to be seen for medical and problems.   We had a very successful first day if clinic with 3 medical providers (Beka , dexter, Tim ), a dentist(bill) , and optical station!  

Tera, jack and Laura jumped right in as medical assistants/nurses!   Jon jumped in as a dentist!  Joey was our triage/intake man!    

We assisted a 7 year old female who had a fever, dehydration , and lethargy.   Tera thankfully got an IV line placed on the first try so that we could infuse saline to rehydrate this poor young girl.   After about 30 minutes she perked up and even cracked a smile for us.   

We had a small medical emergency later in the afternoon.   We made a house visit to see Pastor Prem's wife , Canchimaya , who had been very sick with possible typhoid fever.   She had been treated with multiple courses of antibiotics and medications with no improvement.  Tera gratefully got an iv in her and we infused a liter if saline and gave in injection of antibiotics and prayed the Lords healing over her.   Please pray for God to heal her as she was very sad that she was too weak to walk down to the church to visit with our team.     

We woke up to a beautiful sunrise in Gatlang this am(Friday).   We have a full day of clinic today.

Wow! Today has been quite the adventure!  It began with a delicious Japanese breakfast at Suzata Hotel made by our wonderful hosts, Chorri and Hata. We started to get excited as the jeeps showed up, and we began to load the vehicles:) It was actually quite funny to tell some of the "rookies" that the lighter ones had to sit on the outside seat in case the jeep started to tip;) Tera was a little nervous about that until we told her we were kidding(but you can see the fear in her face as we traverse a sketchy landslide area in the road ).

. Well, the trip began fairly uneventfully, however, we did have to pass more checkpoints than usual. Praise The Lord tho, he always prepares our path in advance, and we made it through every one. The one "hitch" in our day was, I believe, part of God's plan. We "happened" to have a jeep part break directly across from a village called Golgani, a village we have had a burden for, and who is hungry for the gospel. We were able to talk about a possible plan to send a team there sometime in the future :) I can feel the unity of spirit in this team, and although the day was long with frequent stops, this amazing group of people had the best attitudes, and we made the best of it, and actually had a lot of fun. What a blessing it is to be back in Nepal with my husband that these precious people specifically prayed for! Looking forward to what God has in store for us tomorrow in Gatlang!

Riverbed

We were all up a majority of the night due to the mosqitoes that flew in through the windows. you must pick your poison out here, either sleep through the stuffiness or sleep through getting eaten alive. finally after tossing and turning i decided to do my devotions, but because everyone was sleeping all over our guest house, trying to find refuge from the critters, i felt bad turning on a light to journal.   Hence me waking up dr. tim at 4:15 a.m. which is not unlike me being back home harassing him at the crack of dawn because I'm bored, luckily he is going to let me blog about our experience yesterday, so with no further delay... I've been here on the two previous trips, we didn't have the privilege of doing riverbed ministry. Here lies one of the poorest communities in Kathmandu. There homes are made of tarps, scraps, sticks, and rocks. The river they are next to is full of human as well as animal excrement. The stench is rank at best. The thousands of ducks and ducklings are covered in the filth from the river. Slop buckets line the paths for the animals to eat from or the people to relieve themselves in, believe it or not, it is actually hard to tell the difference.  The church we are partnering with made up packs of rice and snacks to give to those in this community that they have already established a relationship with. They are an extremely grateful and friendly people and though they live like this, they are not bums. Many of them have jobs but some are currently unable to work due to physical ailments. We met a young man who had a rod surgically put into his leg because he was hit by a motorcycle therefore affecting his household income that his family relies on. Another girl, Anuksa, couldn't have been any more than ten years old had a YOUNGER sister who wasn't home because she had to work at a local restaurant. For as many hardships as they live with, they still have the joy of The Lord in them. We showered them with love, bathed them in prayer, and trust that The Lord has them in His hand.  This experience really united are team even more to be of one accord and that is to love the people of Nepal and spread the gospel message.  

Mike: we miss you brother, there is not a single Dakhbari church member who doesn't ask about you and Ana and Maia.

I am a can opener for Jesus

I am a can opener for Jesus.

When the Lord told me that the other night,  my reaction was probably the same as yours: "uh...wut?" But here's how He laid it out: "I send things to my kids," He said, "to help you do your thing, sort of like cans of stuff. Maybe it's lychees. Maybe it's stew. Maybe it's paint. Whatever it is, you can't get at it until you get through the steel packaging,  or it's useless.  So some if you, I send to crack that open, to release my blessing to the rest of my kuds. You're my can openers. Others I send as spoons, to deliver it to the body of Christ. 
  Now, maybe you're a fancy electric opener,  or a comfy one with nice handles that people can always have close by. Maybe you're one that has a swiss army knife attached to it so you can be an ok can opener but also ok for lots of other things. Which you grow into is your choice. But that's what I made you, and I have a can for you to crack!"
So what are you? Spoon? Can opener? Coffee mug?

In Kathmandu! United as 1 team!

By Gods amazing grace we all made it to Kathmandu safely...as did all of our bags!    We had no issues coming in and all of our things were untouched.   The Hawaii team met up with the 4 others that met us from the mainland.  We are staying at a nice guest house and everyone is getting settled in!   I am so excited to be back here again.....the sights , sounds and smells of Kathmandu always bring back great memories !     We had a nice dinner tonight and will meet up at Dakhbari church tomorrow to meet all of our wonderful Nepali friends!   We can all feel the jet lag setting in, so pray we are all "reset" tonight as we sleep!   Thank you for all of your prayers and support!

Made it to Korea

We had a very pleasant flight on Korean air ! 10 hrs and 20 minutes with excellent service, food (Bim Bim bop), and comfortable seating. I think Tera memorized the Nepal travel info book:).  Dr Dexter and Joey were blessed with abundant leg room in the exit row!   Laura had her own row ....

Praise Jesus!!!   We are all doing well and ready!  

We will have an overnight layover in Korea and then off to Kathmandu in the am.   Thank you for your prayers!!!!
